Companies to pay a service charge for food municipality control in 2022

November 16/2021

Starting from the first quarter of 2022, municipalities will collect from companies a service charge of EUR 150 for food control. Such operators as village shops will be exempt, however.

This charge referred to in the Food Act will be collected annually from food and contact material companies supervised by the municipal food control authorities. All approved food establishments and registered food premises will be subject to the charge.

Village shops, non-profit organisations and small-scale food establishments processing reindeer and game meat will be exempt from the charge. Primary production and food processing carried out as part of it will also be exempted.

Contact the municipal food control authorities

Operators and companies do not need to apply for an exemption from the service charge for food control. The details of subsidised village shops will be passed on to the municipal authorities. Village shops and non-profit associations with food premises are, however, requested to contact their local food control authorities in 2021.

The control fee strengthens the preparatory role of food control and enables a more diverse work of the authorities.
