Chemical analyses

Chemical analyses for fertilisers is performed for the essential nutrient content of each fertiliser product and to ensure that the content of harmful elements conforms to regulations.

Nutrient contents are measured from primary nutrients (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium), secondary nutrients (calcium, magnesium, sodium, sulphur) and micronutrients (boron, cobalt, copper, iron, manganese, molybdenum, zinc, selenium, vanadium). Analyses are performed for total and different soluble nutrient contents.

Arsenic, mercury, cadmium, chromium, copper, lead, nickel and zinc are measured as harmful elements.

Other determinations to describe fertiliser properties are neutralizing value, reactivity and size distribution from liming materials. pH, electrical conductivity, bulk density and organic matter are measured from soil improvers and growing media.

Laboratory of Chemistry Research Unit is actively participating in method development and testing of fertilizer standards in European CEN working groups for inorganic, organic, lime, soil improvers and growing media.

Chemical methods for fertilisers are used in authority control, so they are perfectly suitable to company’s own-checks. Laboratory performs analytics to companies, operators and to the other laboratories.
