Development and application of a risk prioritization scheme for invasive agricultural, horticultural and forestry pests

The aim of the project was to develop a procedure that will enable the targeting of the resources of the plant health inspections prescribed by plant health legislation and the risk assessment for plant pests that, in all probability, pose an exceptionally high risk to plant production in Finland.

As a result, a pest prioritization model named FinnPRIO was developed. The model is applied to estimate the magnitude of probability of pest invasion and the likely impacts, as well as the efficiency of the risk management available. The FinnPRIO model was validated in three expert workshops. During the project the risk of 95 pest species to Finnish plant production was assessed using the model.
